A New Chapter for a Timeless Legacy

The original Sister Sledge, famous for her hit “We Are Family,” has grown into Sister Sledge ft. Sledgendary-a new generation of the Sledge family. Officially announced in February 2022, this lineup includes Debbie Sledge with her daughter Camille, son David, nephew Thaddeus (son of the late Joni Sledge), and longtime vocalist Tanya Ti-et. This reincarnation has brought new inspiration while continuing to pay homage to the group’s rich history.

New Music, Old Soul

The first effort of the group, now known as Sister Sledge ft. Sledgendary, was to release the single “Free” on February 18, 2022. “Free” wasn’t just a new single but a statement that the group is onto a fusion of their classic sound with the modern ones, like EDM and hip-hop. The song tries to give out the message of liberation through love, something which deeply connects with the band’s ethos of unity and family.

This song marked their first collective release in nearly 20 years, showcasing the seamless integration of the second generation’s musical talents with the established harmonies of the original group. The track was well-received, noted for its infectious energy and the Sledge family’s signature vocal prowess.

Touring with a Legacy

Since their reformation, Sister Sledge ft. Sledgendary has been rather active on the touring circuit, bringing this unique mix of nostalgia and newness to stages across the world:

2022: They started off performing at Metairie’s Family Gras in New Orleans this February, really setting the tone for the year with the vibrancy of the stage.
2024: This group was privileged to have performed for the London Air Ambulance charity gala fundraiser back in February, where they got to meet HRH Prince William. This is one of the numerous events that further seal their relevance and give back to the community. They were also on stage in London’s famous Royal Albert Hall this June, playing both their old and new material with the UK’s The Real Thing.
2024 Shows and Performances: In sister sledge, Sledgendary performed at “A Capital Fourth” on PBS/YouTube to celebrate Independence Day with the classics. They are also headlining the Avalon Theatre in Niagara Falls on a dancing-themed night in March 2025, extending their tour dates well into the following year.
Upcoming Tours: The tour dates run well into 2025, including an appearance at the Avalon Theatre, among others. They keep adding shows to make sure no old or new fan gets left out from experiencing it live.

The Impact Continues

Reformed, Sister Sledge ft. Sledgendary stands not for keeping the legacy alive but for its expansion. With Debbie Sledge guiding the soul of their music without losing the talent and flair of the younger Sledges, live, this would be a testament to family in music thru heritage and the unity that their songs promote.

It has been a revival that has neither brought back happy memories for the fans nor introduced Sister Sledge to new audiences, proving the fact that the message from “We Are Family” does transcend time and genre, really. Each sister tours still and creates new music. Sister Sledge ft. Sledgendary stands tall as that beacon of music which will bridge gaps in generations in order to keep that love, unity, and of course, family alive on the dance floor.
